How to care for your Jewellery
Jewellery Care Guide
Sterling Silver
Storage:
Store your sterling silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Exposure to air and moisture can cause tarnishing.
Use the tarnish-resistant ‘Jules B Jewellery’ presentation box provided with your purchase. These boxes are designed to minimise contact with air and moisture, effectively preventing tarnish and keeping your jewellery in pristine condition.
Ensure each piece is stored individually to prevent scratching or tangling.
Cleaning:
Regularly clean your sterling silver jewellery to remove dirt, oils, and tarnish buildup.
Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a silver polishing cloth to gently wipe the jewellery, removing any surface dirt or fingerprints.
For stubborn tarnish, create a mild cleaning solution by mixing warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap. Soak the jewellery for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush or dedicated silver cleaning brush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners or materials that can scratch the surface of the silver.
Tarnish Prevention:
Minimise exposure to chemicals, including household cleaning agents, perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays. These substances can accelerate tarnishing.
Remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing, or engaging in activities involving contact with water; prolonged exposure to moisture can cause tarnish.
Avoid wearing your jewellery during activities that may cause scratching, such as sports or heavy manual work.
Polishing and Maintenance:
Tarnish occurs naturally over time. Use a silver polishing cloth or a gentle silver polish to restore its lustre.
Be careful when polishing pieces with gemstones or delicate components, as some stones may be sensitive to chemicals or abrasive materials.
For intricate designs or hard-to-reach areas, use a soft-bristled toothbrush or cotton swab for detailed cleaning.
Gold
Storage:
Gold jewellery is more resistant to tarnishing but should still be stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its shine.
Keep gold pieces separate to prevent scratching, ideally in your branded jewellery box.
Cleaning:
Although Gold is less likely to tarnish, you should regularly clean gold jewellery with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt and oils that build up over time.
Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.
Avoid abrasive cleaners or materials that can scratch the gold.
Care Tips:
Minimise exposure to harsh chemicals such as chlorine, saltwater, or cleaning agents, which can dull the metal or weaken its structure over time.
Remove gold jewellery before swimming, exercising, or engaging in heavy manual work to prevent damage or dirt buildup.
Polishing and Maintenance:
Occasionally polish gold jewellery with a jewellery cloth to restore its brilliance.
